Kevin 'Rocket' Blanch Retires as IndyCar Technical Director

Overview

• Blanch announced his immediate retirement on Thursday after 36 years in the sport and 555 consecutive races, stepping away from the technical director role he held for more than two decades.
• Nick Allen, who joined IndyCar as technical inspection manager earlier this year, has been named technical director and will run inspections for IndyCar Officiating going forward.
• May produced the season’s first high-profile failed inspections, including cars driven by Caio Collet, Jack Harvey and Alex Palou, and those enforcement issues are now under Allen’s remit.
• IOB chairman Raj Nair and IndyCar president Doug Boles praised Blanch for guiding the transition and for long-running safety and paddock initiatives such as the annual mechanics’ party.
• IndyCar Officiating and the Independent Officiating Board were created after last season to add independent oversight of aero, chassis and safety rules, and this leadership change will test how the new structure handles compliance and consistency.
