Kevin Durant–Led Group Buys Former Six Flags Maryland Site for Entertainment Redevelopment

County leaders say they want a year-round destination that grows commercial tax revenue.

Overview

  • A joint venture of Durant’s 35V and Atlanta-based TPA Group bought the roughly 500–515 acre property Wednesday, with no purchase price disclosed.
  • Officials said the shuttered park will not return and they will pursue an entertainment-focused mixed-use plan with restaurants, shops, hotels and other venues.
  • County Executive Aisha Braveboy said listening sessions will run for six to eight months, with a goal of a firm plan and early zoning steps within 12 to 18 months.
  • Leaders want stronger, steadier income for the county, noting the seasonal park brought in about $3 million a year and kept more of the tax load on homeowners.
  • The site near Bowie closed in November 2025 after about 50 years of operation, and the former rides covered only about one-fifth of the land now slated for redevelopment.
