Overview
- The seven Dalit families and the heirs of Kannatt Sankaran Nair signed the settlement in the Ernakulam District Collector’s chamber on Monday night, with state and district officials present.
- Under the pact each family will receive a five-cent plot within the disputed land and the state will ensure sponsored construction of houses of at least 1,000 sq ft to be completed within a year.
- Survey work to measure and demarcate the five-cent plots and a three-metre-wide access road is to be finished by June 30 under the Deputy Director of Survey, after which the road will be handed to the local panchayat.
- The Muvattupuzha Revenue Divisional Officer and the Perumbavoor Deputy Superintendent of Police will review progress weekly and submit reports to the District Collector while the Advocate General is to submit the signed documents to the Kerala High Court.
- The agreement requires a boundary wall between allotted plots and private land, allows families to stay in their current homes until new houses are ready, and calls for legal steps to withdraw protest-related criminal cases in line with court orders.
