Overview
- Kalpetta police registered an FIR on Sunday under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, India’s new criminal code, and the Kerala Police Act after Congress MLA T Siddique reported threatening posters near the party’s Wayanad office.
- Officers said CCTV footage shows one person pasting the posters, and they are working to identify him, with no arrests reported so far.
- The posters appeared May 13 on the District Congress Committee wall and nearby areas, including near Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s MP office in Mukkam, and warned that “Wayanad will be next Amethi.”
- The messages also pushed back on talk of picking KC Venugopal as chief minister during the leadership suspense, and Congress named VD Satheesan to the role on May 14.
- Wayanad is Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s constituency and was Rahul Gandhi’s seat, so threats there carry extra political weight for the Congress and add pressure on local workers and police.
