Overview
- The state-run Kerala State Road Transport Corporation has begun a women-only Pink Bus pilot on the Technopark–Thiruvananthapuram corridor as part of the state government’s 100-day programme.
- The pilot uses KSRTC’s new Link Fast buses and follows a formal launch by Transport Minister C P John with services routed through key stops such as East Fort, Thampanoor, Pattom, Medical College, Ulloor, Kazhakkoottam, Technopark, Infosys and Lulu Mall.
- KSRTC will operate scheduled night runs at 8 pm and 10 pm and plans additional daytime services for women arriving by train, mothers with young children, and patients going to the Government Medical College Hospital.
- The service was started after a request from the IT workers’ group Prathidhwani to address shortages of safe late-night transport for night-shift staff and to reduce reliance on expensive auto‑rickshaws.
- Officials say routes and timetables will be finalised based on passenger demand and KSRTC is considering online reservations and electric buses as future upgrades that could improve punctuality and revenue.
