Kerala Congress Publishes Wayanad Relief Accounts for 2024 Landslide Rebuild
The ruling CPI(M) challenges the figures, turning the relief drive into a test of Congress credibility this week.
Overview
- KPCC, which disclosed the accounts on Saturday, said it raised ₹5,38,21,632 through a donation app and a joint bank account held by the party chief and the Opposition leader.
- Sunny Joseph said the party bought land in two phases for housing survivors, spending ₹3.68 crore for 3.24 acres first and ₹2.50 crore for 2.18 acres next, with another ₹73.91 lakh still needed for registration.
- The Youth Congress gave ₹1.05 crore and KPCC added ₹97.51 lakh after the fund fell short, while ₹9.3 lakh had earlier gone to build the fundraising app.
- KPCC put total spending at ₹6,27,96,597 with ₹77,67,247 left in the account and said construction will be paid from KPCC and AICC funds with no new public collections.
- CPI(M) leader M. Swaraj rejected the accounts as false and accused Congress of cashing in on disasters, as reports noted the government has handed over 178 houses and IUML-backed homes are occupied while the Congress project has yet to start.
