Overview
- Regional driver licensing offices will be closed statewide Thursday and Friday, June 4–5, online renewals will be unavailable beginning Wednesday, June 3, and in-person and online services are scheduled to resume on Monday, June 8 with limited capacity.
- When offices reopen on June 8 they will accept walk-ins from 8 a.m. until noon through June 18 while staff complete training and monthly Saturday hours will be suspended for June.
- The new myDrive portal and the Kentucky Information Network for Driver Licensing (KINDL) will let residents pre-apply for licenses, request replacement cards, update addresses, check license status, and monitor card production online.
- State officials urged residents to act early because roughly 55,000 people face June renewals and drivers scheduling road or written tests with the Kentucky State Police should pre-apply through myDrive before their appointments.
- The cabinet frames the change as a long-term modernization to cut wait times but warns of an adjustment period and possible short-term delays such as mail verification for some applications.
