Kentucky Storm Death Toll Climbs to 22 After Six More Confirmed

The state is providing $10,000 per family for funeral costs through the Team Kentucky fund.

Overview

  • Gov. Andy Beshear identified six newly confirmed victims: a 92-year-old man from Hart County, a 69-year-old woman from Madison County, a 59-year-old man from Hardin County, a 77-year-old man from Grayson County, a 79-year-old from Floyd County, and a 68-year-old man from Leslie County.
  • Louisville officials reported a second cold-exposure death, and the Jefferson County Coroner previously ruled that 56-year-old Ricky Marshall died of hypothermia.
  • Beshear said a homeless person’s death in Louisville this week has not yet been processed into the statewide tally.
  • The storm struck Jan. 23–26 with heavy snow, significant ice, and bitter cold, and Beshear noted some parts of Kentucky have recorded up to 26 inches of snow this winter.
  • Beshear voiced disappointment with Lexington’s snow response and said the state is assisting and offering guidance to update the city’s removal plan.
