Kentucky Sets June 8 Launch for New Driver Licensing System and myDrive Portal

The move shifts licensing to a single online account model with a short June service pause for the data cutover.

Overview

  • The state will roll out the Kentucky Information Network for Driver Licensing on June 8 with a myDrive account that replaces a 40‑year‑old platform and lets users pre‑apply, replace a card, change an address, and check license status.
  • To migrate more than 4 million records, online renewals pause June 3, regional offices close June 4–5, then reopen June 8 with walk‑in hours from 8 a.m. to noon through June 18, and June Saturday hours are suspended with May 9 and May 30 options offered.
  • Officials urge early renewal for about 55,000 people whose licenses expire in June, noting many can renew online or by mail if they submit a completed vision screening form.
  • Commercial driver licensing moves into the new system, which will accept medical certificates directly from approved providers, and the separate MyCDL portal will be discontinued.
  • The launch builds on recent capacity gains that cut average walk‑in waits from 49 to 16 minutes and appointment waits from 25 to 10 minutes, alongside a Mobile ID app and funding for new regional offices in Barren, Bullitt, and Oldham counties.
