Kentucky Closes Licensing Offices for Two-Day Migration to KINDL

The record transfer into KINDL enables the myDrive portal for account-based online driver services.

Overview

  • All 35 regional driver licensing branches shut down for a planned systems migration on Thursday and Friday and are scheduled to reopen on Monday, June 8 with limited walk-in hours.
  • Technicians are moving roughly 4 million driver records from a nearly 40-year-old mainframe into the Kentucky Information Network for Driver Licensing, known as KINDL.
  • The myDrive online portal will go live when offices reopen and will let account holders pre-apply for licenses and permits, request replacements, change addresses, and check license status.
  • From June 8 through June 18 branches will offer walk-ins only from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. while staff complete training and verification of migrated records.
  • Officials urge drivers to create and verify a myDrive account as soon as it launches because about 55,000 people with June renewals could be affected and mail verification may take extra time.
