Overview
- Attorney General Russell Coleman announced on Tuesday that 12 counties were chosen at random for post-primary inquiries, listing Rowan, Oldham, Franklin, Daviess, Laurel, Adair, Scott, Union, Fulton, Carroll, Floyd and Pike.
- Coleman said the selection follows reports to the state Election Fraud Hotline, which logged nearly 600 messages since January 1 with 155 incoming on Primary Election Day, May 19.
- The Office of the Attorney General’s Department of Criminal Investigations will conduct the reviews independently while the Special Prosecutions Unit prepares any prosecutorial referrals.
- Investigations will be presented to a grand jury in each audited county, a step that determines whether criminal charges or further legal action will follow.
- The reviews are framed as routine, legally required oversight to protect confidence in elections and could affect local election offices and voters as the state moves toward the Nov. 3 general election.
