Overview
- Clockwork released the first teaser trailer on June 22 and has begun festival showings after the restoration premiered in 4K at Cannes in May.
- The reconstruction was assembled from the original camera negative with sound remastered from original English composite 35mm mag elements and work by Warner Bros. Post Production Creative Services, Water Tower Color, Warner Bros. Sound and Lucida Productions.
- Reporting indicates the new print restores at least two sexually explicit sequences that were removed or censored from earlier releases, reinstating material critics and advocates long sought to see.
- Warner Bros. Clockwork will open the restored, uncut film in select North American theaters on October 16 for a one-week engagement with additional international dates to follow and a UK partnership with the BFI.
- The release aims to reframe a once-banned 1971 film by offering wider access to Russell’s intended cut and testing whether archival restorations can change how controversial works are seen and studied.
