Keith Richards Says Stones May Move From Tours to City Residencies

He blamed the wear of constant travel on older band members and suggested multi-night runs in single cities as a more practical way to keep the group performing.

Overview

  • Keith Richards told Uncut that traditional, travel-heavy global tours “may not be possible” for the Rolling Stones and proposed doing residencies — multi-night runs in cities such as London, New York, Paris or Rome — as an alternative.
  • The band confirmed plans for a U.K. and European stadium run were shelved in late 2025 after Richards signaled he could not commit to the logistics of that schedule.
  • The Stones remain active creatively and are promoting Foreign Tongues, their 25th studio album due July 10, which was recorded in under a month at Metropolis Studios in west London.
  • Foreign Tongues features guest contributions from Paul McCartney, Robert Smith, Chad Smith and Steve Winwood and includes a posthumous performance by Charlie Watts; the band has released singles this spring and will roll out further media tied to the album.
  • A shift from touring to residencies would cut long-haul travel for the aging members, change how fans see the band onstage, and shift revenue and production logistics toward concentrated multi-night shows and expanded studio and media promotion.
