KATSEYE’s 'WILD' Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200

Strong traditional sales from dozens of collectible CD and vinyl editions powered the opening week and raise operational and health-management questions as the group prepares for a major arena tour.

Overview

  • KATSEYE’s third EP WILD reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 in the chart dated Aug. 29 after earning 170,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Aug. 20, according to Luminate and Billboard.
  • Of those first-week units, 145,000 came from traditional album sales and 24,500 came from streaming equivalents, a gap driven by the EP’s sale in more than 30 physical configurations that included photocards, bonus tracks and signed or randomized extras.
  • The opening-week total is the largest by units for an all-female group under Billboard’s current units methodology and gave KATSEYE their first career No. 1 after prior peaks at No. 4 for Beautiful Chaos and No. 98 for SIS.
  • WILD also opened at No. 2 on the U.K. Official Albums Chart and placed multiple songs on the Official Singles Chart, with pre-release single “Animal” and new tracks like “Hootie Frutti” reaching new peaks.
  • Two founding members have been on medically advised breaks during the release period, and the group is set to begin a large-scale arena tour in September, creating pressure on management to balance intense promotion with member wellbeing.
