Karnataka Police Book BJP’s B. Sriramulu Over Alleged Disclosure of Minor’s Identity

A police review of protest footage triggered an FIR under child-protection laws.

Overview

  • An FIR was registered on January 19 at the Ballari Women Police Station under Sections 23(1) and 23(2) of the POCSO Act and Section 74 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
  • B. Sriramulu allegedly revealed a POCSO survivor’s name and identifying details during a January 17 BJP protest at the APMC premises in Ballari.
  • The complaint cites a video of the event that police reviewed on January 18, after which Inspector Mohammed Rafi filed the case and an investigation began.
  • Police said the child is linked to an earlier case filed on September 12, 2025 at the same station under POCSO Sections 8 and 12 and Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
  • No arrests have been made, and BJP leader Gali Janardhana Reddy said they will contest the matter legally as the protest also pressed for a CBI probe and the arrest of Congress MLA Nara Bharath Reddy.
