Overview
- Patil formally wrote to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and raised the proposals with Minister of State V. Somanna, and he said Somanna gave a positive response during a Railway Department programme on Wednesday, July 1.
- The plan would use land freed after the station goods shed was shifted to Aliyabad to build a coach depot that would serve as a maintenance and stabling hub for trains.
- Patil requested an additional arrival and departure gate at Vijayapura station to improve passenger flow during weekends, festivals and holidays when the station sees heavy footfall.
- He linked the infrastructure requests to better operations for the proposed Bengaluru–Vijayapura Vande Bharat service and to overall rail connectivity for North Karnataka.
- The proposals require formal approval and funding from the Union Railway Ministry, so they now await central clearance and allocation before any work can begin.
