Karnataka Lokayukta Conducts Statewide Raids and Books Three Officials in Land-Allotment Case

The operations signal renewed enforcement of anti-corruption laws that could lead to criminal charges for accused officers.

Overview

  • The Lokayukta carried out simultaneous searches on Wednesday at more than 53 locations across Bengaluru, Dharwad, Shivamogga, Raichur, Chitradurga, Tumakuru and Kalaburagi targeting roughly ten officials in disproportionate-assets probes.
  • Earlier action in Bengaluru led to the formal booking of M.K. Jagadish, B.R. Manjunath and Rajanikanth on allegations they wrongfully allotted over 13 acres at Hunasamaranahalli to private parties.
  • Investigators executed court-issued search warrants after obtaining prior state permission under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and seized documents, records and assets during the searches.
  • The DA raids uncovered assets that the Lokayukta valued collectively at about Rs 49.8 crore across the ten officers, with seized items including property records, bank deposits, vehicles and jewellery.
  • The probes remain active with searches continuing and further legal steps — including formal charges, recovery actions or administrative sanctions — to follow based on evidence gathered.
