Overview
- Home Minister G. Parameshwara renewed a call to fold Tumakuru into the capital region under the name Bengaluru North and urged approval to connect it by metro.
- He said planners have readied a Madavara–Tumakuru corridor spanning 59.6 km with an estimated price tag of about Rs 20,000 crore.
- Parameshwara asked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar to clear the project, while noting the plan is prepared rather than approved or funded.
- BJP leaders, including Bengaluru Central MP P. C. Mohan, criticized the renaming push and warned it could sprawl Bengaluru’s brand across the state.
- Parameshwara cited Ramanagara being called Bengaluru South as a model and revived an idea he floated last year before backing off after heritage concerns from local figures.
