Karnataka High Court Rejects Rajeev Gowda’s Bid to Quash FIR Over Abuse of Municipal Commissioner

The court said the words attributed to the Congress leader prima facie disclose the offence of insulting a woman’s modesty.

Overview

  • Justice M. Nagaprasanna refused to halt the probe, noting the quashing plea came within five days of the FIR and that investigators may add BNS Section 79.
  • The FIR from Sidlaghatta police cites BNS provisions including Sections 132, 224, 351(3) and 352 after an abusive call allegedly followed the removal of unauthorised banners.
  • Prosecutors have objected to Gowda’s interim bail petition before the Second Additional District and Sessions Court in Chikkaballapur.
  • KPCC has referred the case to its disciplinary committee and recommended Gowda’s suspension after he did not respond to a party notice.
  • BJP leaders claim Gowda is absconding and fault police for not tracing him, while BBMP separately fined him Rs 50,000 over unauthorised posters.
