Overview
- Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar announced Monday that each Karnataka MLA will be offered three complimentary tickets for IPL matches at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
- The plan gives two free tickets for international games with the option to buy two more, and MLAs can opt out by writing to the Speaker.
- The agreement followed talks at the Deputy CM’s residence with the Karnataka State Cricket Association, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and DNA Networks, with KSCA president Venkatesh Prasad in attendance.
- The final quota is lower than the four tickets the Speaker had urged, and critics including BJP MP Tejasvi Surya and Congress leader D. K. Suresh objected to free passes as VIP privilege.
- Shivakumar said KSCA will submit proposals to add about 20,000 seats and the state is identifying land for new sports facilities in Bengaluru, Tumakuru and Mysuru to ease public access.
