Overview
- The outbreak, confirmed after an April 14 NIHSAD lab report, set off state protocols to contain H5N1 at the State Poultry and Training Centre in Mathkuru, Hesaraghatta.
- Veterinary teams culled 7,444 chickens, 14,788 eggs and 2,250 kg of feed, then sealed the burial pit for a year to block any spread.
- Authorities declared a 0–3 km infected zone and a 3–10 km surveillance ring that cover 19 villages in total, with daily house-to-house fever checks by local health workers.
- Rapid response teams visited the site on April 16, ten cullers were placed in quarantine with oseltamivir, and private hospitals were told to report flu-like and severe respiratory cases on the national IHIP portal.
- No human infections are reported so far, as investigators examine a nearby migratory-bird lake as a possible source and advise that properly cooked poultry and eggs remain safe to eat.
