Karnataka BJP Alleges 31 Government Plots Allotted at 5% Value for Congress Bhavans

Congress frames the transfers as a centenary push for 100 party buildings, citing earlier concessional land grants as precedent.

Overview

  • Leader of Opposition Chalavadi Narayanaswamy said five Revenue Department sites and 26 from local bodies were sanctioned for Congress Bhavans, many of them civic amenity parcels not intended for party offices.
  • The BJP alleged the plots were priced at about 5% of guidance or market value, citing examples in Chikkaballapur, Badami and Mandya where crores in land value were allotted for lakhs.
  • Party leaders demanded a legal examination and immediate recovery of the sites, warning of court action if the government does not withdraw the allotments.
  • Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar acknowledged using government land and said Karnataka Congress plans 100 Bhavans linked to centenary activities, describing typical plot sizes of 5,000–10,000 sq ft and pointing to past concessional allotments under BJP rule.
  • BJP figures including B. Y. Vijayendra, Gaurav Bhatia and Pralhad Joshi called the move an abuse of power and claimed Cabinet approvals overrode officials’ objections, escalating the dispute without any announced independent review so far.
