Overview
- The Karnataka government announced the concession on Thursday, saying motorists can pay half their outstanding penalties during a 20-day window from June 21 to July 10, 2026.
- The concession covers police-registered e-challan cases up to May 2026 and unpaid Transport Department penalty cases recorded between 1991 and 2022.
- The move follows a proposal from the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority and was formalised by a Transport Department government order issued with the Finance Department's concurrence.
- Officials expect the window to prompt motorists to clear dues and reduce the backlog after a similar drive in Nov–Dec 2025 settled over 77.4 lakh cases and raised nearly ₹201 crore.
- Authorities say about ₹2,827 crore remains recoverable from pending cases, and the scheme is timed ahead of the National Lok Adalat on July 11 to encourage negotiated settlements.
