Karlovy Vary Launches Central Stage Showcase and Inaugural Book‑To‑Screen

KVIFF hopes to build a Central and Eastern European IP market for screen adaptations.

Overview

  • KVIFF Promises has released lists of 11 film projects and eight books chosen for its Central Stage and first Book‑To‑Screen initiative, with finalists positioned to seek co‑production, financing and distribution at festival events.
  • Selected Central Stage projects come from established CEE filmmakers and will present to industry partners for sales, festival premieres and eligibility for post‑production support and the €20,000 Eurimages Co‑Production Development Award.
  • Book‑To‑Screen is an inaugural program created with the Frankfurt Book Fair, the Moravian Library in Brno, Book World and support from the PPF Foundation to spotlight eight Central and Eastern European titles for film and TV adaptation.
  • Producers will meet the Book‑To‑Screen selection during an interactive session hosted by Niki Théron, and projects across both strands gain access to industry partners such as UPP and Soundsquare to speed deals and production workflows.
  • KVIFF Industry Head Hugo Rosák says the move is meant to fix uneven rights handling in the region, a change that could help authors and filmmakers secure clearer adaptation contracts and lead to more international co‑productions and visibility for CEE stories.
