Karlovy Vary Honors Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jesse Eisenberg With President’s Award

KVIFF says the pair exemplify a trans‑Atlantic actor‑director sensibility and will spotlight Gyllenhaal’s new film The Bride! alongside a screening of Richard Ayoade’s The Double for Eisenberg.

Overview

  • KVIFF announced Monday that Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jesse Eisenberg will receive the festival’s President’s Award at the 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, which runs July 3–11.
  • Gyllenhaal will accept her award at the opening ceremony and will present her 2026 film The Bride!, a reimagining of the Frankenstein story whose cast Variety lists as Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Annette Bening, Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard and Jake Gyllenhaal.
  • Eisenberg will be honored later in the festival with a screening of Richard Ayoade’s 2013 film The Double and Variety reports his next film as writer‑director, The Debut, is set for A24 release in Fall 2026.
  • Festival directors said the awards recognize the honorees’ work as actor‑directors who connect U.S. and European cinematic traditions and who reflect current trends in auteur and trans‑Atlantic filmmaking.
  • KVIFF also published its Crystal Globe Competition, Proxima Competition and Special Screenings lineups and said it will announce additional honorees, including this year’s Crystal Globe recipient, in the coming weeks.
