Karachi SIU Raids Qadri House, Detains 17 in Extortion Probe

Police describe an intelligence-led operation based on information from an already arrested extortion suspect.

Overview

  • Seventeen people were detained at Qadri House in Nazimabad, including alleged extortion suspects Jawad Qadri (alias Wajah) and Mulla Shahzaib, with police saying eight had prior records.
  • Officers reported seizing three rifles, sub‑machine guns, handguns, ammunition, mobile phones, gold items, and about nine kilograms of hashish and heroin.
  • The SIU alleges the detainees worked for extortion networks led by Abdul Samad Kathiawari and Wasiullah Lakho and says cases have been registered as investigations proceed.
  • SSP Imran Khan said the raid followed leads provided by Rehan/Rehanuddin, an extortion suspect earlier arrested after an encounter.
  • Pakistan Sunni Tehreek condemned the operation as unlawful, claimed CCTV was damaged and some seized arms were licensed, and warned of nationwide protests.
