Karachi Shuts Nine Dhabeji Pumps for 48 Hours to Connect Central Line No. 5

The two-day shutdown is part of a World Bank–linked KWSSIP upgrade meant to strengthen long-term supply reliability.

Overview

  • KWSC began the interconnection at Dhabeji on Saturday at 12 noon, pausing nine pumps for 48 hours to link the new Central Line No. 5 to the city network.
  • Water service is suspended for 48 hours in North Karachi, Surjani, Scheme 33, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, parts of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Saddar, Landhi, Korangi and Chanesar Town.
  • Seven pumps are scheduled to resume on Monday, April 27, with two remaining offline for five additional days to finish technical work.
  • Supply from the Fourth Phase, K-II and K-III systems is halted during the work, and public hydrants at Nipa, Safoora and Sakhi Hasan are closed.
  • Officials expect a shortfall of about 250 million gallons per day from a normal 650 MGD, with roughly 400 MGD maintained and residents urged to conserve water.
