Kansas Men Indicted in Separate Social-Media Threat Cases Targeting Rep. Omar and ICE Agents

A Facebook emergency disclosure to state investigators identified the account behind a post that prompted a federal case.

Overview

  • Adam Lee Osborn, 60, of Wichita was indicted on one count of interstate communications containing a threat to injure and one count of threatening a federal official for a Jan. 23 post stating, "I'm going to kill Ilhan Omar."
  • Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Wichita police traced the post to Osborn after Facebook’s voluntary emergency disclosure and say he admitted writing it during an interview.
  • Investigators report Osborn said he lacked the means to act but wanted his posts to "maybe provoke someone to handle business," clarifying he meant to kill targeted officials.
  • Osborn made an initial federal court appearance on Jan. 26 in Wichita and remains in custody pending an arraignment and detention hearing set for Feb. 4.
  • Separately, a federal grand jury indicted Joaquin Hernandez, 23, of Wichita for a social-media video allegedly threatening to assault and murder ICE agents, with Wichita police and the FBI investigating both cases.
