Overview
- Priyanshu Srivastava, a young lawyer, jumped from the fifth floor of the Kanpur court complex on Thursday and was declared brought dead at Ursula Horsman Memorial Hospital.
- He had uploaded a two-page handwritten note to his WhatsApp status roughly 20 to 21 minutes before the jump, investigators said.
- In the note, he alleged years of humiliation and control by his father, citing a punishment at age six for drinking mango juice and pressure in 2016 to choose Computer studies over Physical Education.
- He also wrote that he had finished his LLB in 2025 but failed to clear law exams, described financial strain tied to family responsibilities, asked that no action be taken against his father, and said his father should not touch his body.
- Police seized his phone, are authenticating the note and other digital records, reviewed CCTV that shows him on a call before the jump, and sent the body for post-mortem as the investigation continues.
