Overview
- Kaja Kallas arrived in Islamabad and co‑chaired the 8th Pakistan–EU Strategic Dialogue with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in meetings held on Monday that brought together Pakistan’s president, prime minister and military chief.
- The Strategic Dialogue reviewed progress under the 2019 Strategic Engagement Plan and focused on trade, investment, climate, migration, governance and security as the framework for deeper ties.
- Kallas reiterated that Pakistan is the largest beneficiary of the EU’s GSP+ trade scheme and warned that continued preferential access to EU markets depends on measurable implementation of international conventions on governance, labour, environment and human rights.
- The EU publicly credited Pakistan’s diplomatic role in helping to prevent a wider US–Iran war and offered European contributions—ranging from naval operations to nuclear‑expertise and economic tools—to help make any ceasefire more durable.
- Both sides signalled intent to expand economic cooperation through an EU–Pakistan Business Forum, follow up on GSP+ conditionality, and widen engagement with civil society and academia to translate political commitments into jobs and investment.
