K2 Space Raises $500 Million at $6.8 Billion Valuation

The financing will bankroll a push to industrialize production at its Torrance factory so the company can fulfill large commercial orders and new U.S. defense contracts.

Overview

  • K2 Space, which announced the funding on Thursday, closed a $500 million Series D led by Kleiner Perkins and ICONIQ at a $6.8 billion valuation.
  • The company says the round brings total capital raised to more than $1 billion and supports over $1 billion in signed commercial and government contracts.
  • K2 plans to scale manufacturing in a 180,000-square-foot Torrance facility designed to produce up to 100 large, high-power satellites per year and builds roughly 85% of each platform in-house.
  • Confirmed customers and programs include an initial tranche of 30 satellites for SES’s planned meoSphere network, work for Anduril on the Golden Dome program, and selection as the bus provider for the U.S. Space Force’s Protected Tactical Satcom‑Global program.
  • The company says the funding will accelerate near-term missions and product road maps including a multi‑satellite Trinity launch planned for Q2 2027 and a targeted 100 kW Giga‑class satellite in the second half of 2028, which would expand on‑orbit compute and payload capacity.
