Overview
- K-Electric’s board appointed Syed Taha as chief executive to replace interim leader Adeeb Ahmad, and PSX confirmed the change Tuesday in a letter that set April 15 as the start date.
- The company said the notice of appointment was filed on March 24 with the Pakistan Stock Exchange by Rizwan Pesnani, its chief risk officer and company secretary.
- Taha has led Pakistan State Oil as managing director and CEO since February 2020, previously served as KE’s chief distribution officer, worked with Oasis Energy in Nigeria, and holds an engineering degree plus an MBA in finance from IBA Karachi.
- The leadership shift follows the February resignation of longtime CEO Moonis Alvi after a 2025 provincial ombudsman’s harassment finding that was later set aside by the Sindh governor, with a court this year allowing the return of the deposited fine.
- K-Electric supplies power to about 3.7 million customers in Karachi and nearby regions, is majority owned by KES Power with a sizable federal stake, and faces persistent complaints over outages, billing and aging infrastructure that the new chief will have to address.
