Jury Shown Video Testimony as David Carrick Trial Moves Forward at the Old Bailey

Prosecutors cite Carrick’s prior convictions to argue a longstanding pattern of predatory behavior.

Overview

  • Ex-Met officer David Carrick is on trial accused of sexually abusing a girl in the late 1980s and of raping and sexually assaulting a woman years later, which he denies.
  • In the latest hearing, jurors watched a video interview in which the woman said Carrick, then a serving officer, abused and controlled her and "ruined" her life.
  • The woman’s account described alleged strangling, coerced sex acts, verbal abuse, and being thrown out of the house during what prosecutors call a toxic relationship.
  • The first complainant, now an adult, was cross-examined and rejected suggestions she fabricated her account, with the court told of a letter signed "Dave" containing apparent admissions.
  • Carrick, formerly of the Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection unit and now held at HMP Belmarsh, previously admitted numerous sexual offences, with courts recording 71 instances against 12 women.
