Overview
- A Santa Clara County jury, in what DA Jeff Rosen called Wednesday's reminder of the risks officers face, found Jeffrey Choy guilty of attempted murder.
- Prosecutors said Choy fired two shots from a 9 mm handgun at arm’s length during a July 16, 2022 stop after the officer pulled over a Ford Explorer near Villa and Hope streets.
- One round missed and the other passed through the officer’s arm and struck his bullet-resistant vest, according to Mountain View police.
- After the shooting, Choy drove off, crashed near Higdon Avenue, hid in a laundry room for hours, then was arrested the next day outside a Black Bear Diner in Fremont.
- The district attorney’s office said Choy was a felon barred from possessing guns who was out on bail with an active warrant from a March 2022 gun case.
