Juneteenth Observed Friday as Federal Offices and Markets Close and Retailers Remain Open

The federal holiday shuts mail, banks and bond and stock trading, leaving private carriers, grocery chains and local festivals to provide services and gatherings.

Overview

  • Federal offices and the U.S. Postal Service will be closed on Friday, June 19, halting regular mail delivery and many in-person government services.
  • The New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq and the U.S. bond market will be closed for the holiday, and most bank branches are expected to suspend in-person services.
