Julian Alaphilippe Withdraws From Liège–Bastogne–Liège on Medical Grounds

Tudor frames the move as a medical step to protect his recovery after a run of race exits.

Overview

  • Tudor announced Saturday on Instagram that Alaphilippe will not start Sunday’s Liège–Bastogne–Liège and will also skip EschbornFrankfurt on May 1.
  • The team said the decision was made for medical reasons to prioritize his health and prepare a managed return to racing.
  • German rider Marco Brenner, 23, has been called up to replace Alaphilippe on the Liège start list.
  • The withdrawal follows a difficult spring in which Alaphilippe abandoned the Tour of the Basque Country, Amstel Gold Race, and La Flèche Wallonne.
  • His form has slumped this season, with a best finish of 20th at Strade Bianche and no top-10 since February, a notable absence for a two-time world champion and past Liège runner-up in 2015 and 2021 at one of cycling’s five Monuments.
