Jules Gounon Stabilises After Passing Out From Food Poisoning at Paul Ricard 6 Hours

The Verstappen Racing driver says he will race the Nürburgring 24 Hours with Max Verstappen next month.

Overview

  • Gounon drove two stints, including a roughly two-hour double stint, while suffering food poisoning during the six-hour GT World Challenge Europe race at Circuit Paul Ricard.
  • He passed out after exiting the Mercedes-AMG and spent several hours in the circuit medical center before his condition stabilised.
  • In an Instagram update, he thanked doctors and teammates, said Dani Juncadella got him to the medical center early, and called the double stint one of the hardest of his career.
  • Verstappen Racing finished ninth overall and seventh in the Pro class with Gounon, Juncadella and Chris Lulham, while Max Verstappen did not compete.
  • Gounon says he remains set to team with Verstappen, Juncadella and Lucas Auer for the Nürburgring 24 Hours on May 14–17, a race known for long stints that can strain drivers through heat and fluid loss.
