Jujuy Poverty Line Rises to $1,131,712 in October as Food Costs Climb

Dipec says the uptick matched Jujuy's 2.1% inflation, breaking a six-month slide.

  • A four-person household needed 1,131,712 pesos to cover the basic total basket in October, up 23,816 pesos month over month for a 2.1% increase.
  • The basic food basket for the same family reached 501,302 pesos, a 1.7% rise, while a single adult required 366,249 pesos to avoid poverty and 162,233 pesos to avoid indigence.
  • Jujuy’s Consumer Price Index rose 2.1% in October, with year-to-date inflation at 24.1% and the monthly reading led by Other expenses (+6.4%), Housing, fuel and electricity (+3.8%), Home equipment (+3.1%), Education (+3.0%) and Transport and communications (+2.5%).
  • Food pressures were concentrated in sharp increases for lemon, tomato and squash (about 41.5% to 20.3%), alongside gains in many meat cuts such as paleta (+5%) and cuadril (+4.1%).
  • Nationally, INDEC reported a 3.1% monthly change for both the food and total baskets in October and a Greater Buenos Aires family needed 1,213,799 pesos, with November indices due December 11 (INDEC) and December 12 (Dipec).
