Judson ISD Approves 536 Job Cuts and New Boundaries to Balance Budget

District leaders plan a November tax rate vote that could fund raises for remaining staff.

Overview

  • Trustees voted 6-1 to eliminate 536 positions next school year, about 7% of the workforce, to move toward a balanced budget.
  • District officials said 284 cuts come from four campus closures, 175 are vacant roles left unfilled, and about 77 current jobs could be eliminated.
  • The board approved a new attendance map and, in a 5-2 vote, reassigned students from closing campuses, including some rezoned from Veterans Memorial High to Judson High.
  • Judson Middle School students will move to Kitty Hawk Middle, and elementary students from Ed Franz, Rolling Meadows, and Park Village will shift to Crestview, Salinas, Copperfield, and Elolf STEAM Academy.
  • Parents and two trustees criticized limited input and warned that losing bus service makes school choice harder for families.
