Judicial Commission of Pakistan Recommends 10 Sindh High Court Judges for Permanency

A rules committee is now preparing procedures for appointments to the new Federal Constitutional Court.

Overview

  • The commission, chaired by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, voted by majority to recommend making Justices Miran Muhammad Shah, Tasneem Sultana, Riazat Ali Sahar, Muhammad Hasan (Akber), Abdul Hamid Bhurgi, Jan Ali Junejo, Nisar Ahmed Bhanbhro, Ali Haider “Ada”, Muhammad Osman Ali Hadi and Muhammad Jaffer Raza permanent on the SHC.
  • Two SHC additional judges, Khalid Hussain Shahani and Syed Fiaz ul Hassan Shah, received six-month extensions, and four judges were nominated to constitutional benches with the benches’ tenure extended for six months.
  • On Jan 12, the JCP recommended confirmation of IHC Justices Muhammad Azam Khan, Muhammad Asif and Inaam Ameen Minhas, confirmed Justice Najam-ud-Din Mengal for the Balochistan High Court, and declined Justice Muhammad Ayub Khan by majority.
  • The core commission assigned a committee led by Justice Aamer Farooq to propose interview procedures, nomination criteria and amendments to JCP rules for Federal Constitutional Court appointments.
  • Reports noted the absence of PTI-affiliated members from some meetings, and deliberations recorded that a December 2025 traffic case involving Justice Muhammad Asif’s son did not involve pressure from the judge.
