Judge Revokes Bond for Kim Mathers and Orders Her Detained

The judge said she abandoned court-ordered treatment and violated monitoring rules so she was returned to jail ahead of a probable cause hearing on Oct. 14.

Overview

  • Judge William Hackel III revoked Mathers' bond at a heated hearing on Oct. 7 and ordered her held in Macomb County Jail pending a probable cause conference on Oct. 14.
  • Prosecutors told the court that Mathers checked into a court-ordered inpatient treatment program but left without permission and that her alcohol monitor showed multiple violations.
  • Mathers previously turned herself in to 42-2 District Court in June after missing several hearings and in August prosecutors had asked the court to jail her for repeated bond breaches.
  • Defense attorney Camilla Barkovic said a magistrate approved changes to Mathers' release that would allow her to leave treatment, a move Judge Hackel said only a circuit judge could authorize.
  • The judge also noted a bench warrant should have been issued when she left treatment but was never executed, and reporting says she faces potential prison exposure across the three DUI/OWI cases.
