- A Los Angeles judge issued the five-year protective order on Wednesday after hearing that the man repeatedly showed up near Carpenter’s home and tried to reach her front door.
- Court filings and security images say William Applegate visited Carpenter’s property more than a dozen times starting in late April and was arrested on May 23 after striking a security guard while attempting to get to her door.
- At the hearing Applegate represented himself and told the court he believed he and Carpenter were part of a classified military program that required them to be together, a claim the judge declined to treat as a defense to the order.
- The order requires Applegate to stay at least 100 yards from Carpenter, her sister and her sister’s partner and bans contact along with ownership or possession of firearms or ammunition.
- City prosecutors and the LAPD are continuing a criminal review of Applegate’s conduct and an arraignment or charges could follow while the civil order remains in effect to protect Carpenter and her household.
