Overview
- A Los Angeles County judge granted the five-year civil restraining order on Wednesday after a hearing in which the defendant opposed the request.
- The order bars 31-year-old William Applegate from contacting Carpenter, her sister or her sister’s partner and requires him to stay at least 100 yards from their home, workplace and vehicles through June 17, 2031.
- Carpenter’s petition and security footage say Applegate appeared at her property multiple times and on May 23 forced his way through a neighboring yard to reach her front door, which she says caused severe and ongoing emotional distress.
- Applegate, who represented himself, told the court that he and Carpenter were part of a classified military program and said they needed to be together to ‘save the world,’ claims the judge rejected as a basis to deny protection.
- The LAPD described Applegate as having developed an irrational fixation and is conducting a criminal investigation even though public records do not yet show filed charges, and the civil order does not replace possible future prosecution.
