Overview
- The case began with a viral July 3, 2025 video in which Ximena Pichel verbally attacked a Mexico City traffic officer with racist and classist insults.
- A judge linked Pichel to a discrimination process last July and ordered a suspensión condicional del proceso that required a public apology, about 97–98,000 pesos in reparations, community service, travel restrictions, regular check-ins and sensitivity therapies.
- Journalist reports in mid-May said Pichel had not attended the court-ordered discrimination therapies and that authorities were seeking an arrest warrant, prompting a review hearing.
- At the May 20 hearing the judge declined to order detention and instead extended the suspension for two months, keeping her free while reaffirming obligations to join a COPRED social program and complete other measures.
- If Pichel fails to meet the conditions the suspensión condicional can be revoked and normal criminal proceedings resumed, which could lead to detention or other penalties; the extension gives the court time to monitor compliance.
