The funding marks a mid-cycle push to prepare regional talent for the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

Overview

  • Fundación Trinidad Alfonso presented the 14th Proyecto FER at L'Alqueria del Basket in Valencia, committing €1 million to a grant program that supports athletes from the region.
  • The 2026 roster includes 140 athletes in three tiers, with 45 in Élite receiving €12,000 to €16,000, 50 in Promesas receiving €6,000 to €8,000, and 45 in Vivero receiving €2,000 or €3,000 based on results.
  • A coaches annex called FER Entrenadores continues for a ninth year with 14 beneficiaries who will receive grants between €3,000 and €6,000.
  • Since 2013, Proyecto FER has awarded 1,700 scholarships to 530 athletes, distributing €11 million provided by Roig through the foundation.
  • Roig stressed the value of daily effort and said any medals in Los Angeles would stem from years of work rather than chance.
