Overview
- Rice University Police are searching for 24-year-old Rabe'e Ata Juma'a Alqaq, a Jordanian athlete who traveled to Houston for the Genuine Cup and was reported missing from his Martel College dorm.
- Surveillance footage from July 26 shows Alqaq walking on the Rice campus in a light blue T-shirt and black pants and being seen near Entrance 23 where he appears to head off campus before turning back.
- Dormmates reported him missing around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday after finding personal items still in his room, which prompted the university to issue a Be On the Lookout alert and ask anyone with information to call RUPD at 713-348-6000.
- Investigators say Alqaq has cerebral palsy does not speak English and is unfamiliar with Houston, and they have so far been unable to obtain his cell-phone location because of limits in obtaining data from foreign mobile providers.
- Police are pursuing alternative leads including social‑media account records and campus video and continue to ask the public and Genuine Cup participants to come forward with any tips as the search continues.
