Overview
- Officers responded around 3:46 p.m. Saturday to Gonzalez Fresh Produce on Collins Street after reports that a man was beating a rooster.
- Responding police found Francisco Arreola, 39, holding a tan, black and white rooster on a rope leash with visible head injuries.
- Arreola faces counts of felony aggravated animal cruelty, misdemeanor cruelty, an animals-in-entertainment violation, and obstructing justice.
- Investigators say he appeared intoxicated, initially gave a fake identity, and had two active Kane County warrants before being booked into the Will County jail.
- Joliet Township Animal Control took the rooster into custody, and the department’s Animal Crimes Team coordinated veterinary treatment and follow-up.
