Joint Probe After Chesterfield House Explosion Leaves Man With Life-Changing Burns

Police have opened a joint inquiry with a public appeal for witness footage.

  • Emergency services were called at about 2:50pm on Friday to Summerfield Road in Boythorpe, Chesterfield, after a blast damaged a detached house and a nearby property.
  • Officers discovered a suspected cannabis grow inside the property, and a 32-year-old man was hospitalised with burns described as life-changing.
  • Residents in the two adjoining homes were evacuated as a precaution, were uninjured, and have since returned to their properties.
  • The scene was cordoned and made safe as Derbyshire Police and Derbyshire Fire & Rescue began a joint investigation.
  • Police say no arrests have been made and are seeking CCTV, Ring doorbell or dash-cam footage while assuring there is no wider threat to the public.
