Joint Inspection Underway After SPC Samlip Plant Fire as Production Remains Halted

Investigators have begun a joint on-site inspection to determine the cause.

Overview

  • The fire began at 2:59 p.m. Tuesday on a bread production line in the Siheung facility, with authorities containing the main flames by 6:55 p.m. and fully extinguishing the blaze by 10:49 p.m.
  • Firefighting units initiated a Level 1 response that deployed about 50 pieces of equipment and roughly 130 personnel from multiple stations.
  • Twelve workers were on the line at the outset, ten evacuated on their own, two were rescued from the fourth floor and the roof, and three people sustained minor smoke-inhalation injuries.
  • All 544 people in the four-story building with a basement were accounted for, and witness reports of an explosive sound are being reviewed as part of the probe.
  • Operations across the plant are suspended for a second day for safety checks and evidence preservation, raising supply concerns for client brands such as Shinsegae Food, Burger King, Lotteria and KFC.
