JNPA Activates 15-Day Waivers for Stranded Middle East-Bound Export Containers
The relief follows ministry guidance to cut port holding costs for exporters hit by West Asia shipping disruption.
Overview
- Terminal operators will waive 100% of ground rent and dwell time for qualifying containers for 15 days, covering 12 AM Feb 28 through 11:59 PM Mar 14.
- Reefer plug-in fees for perishable shipments will be reduced by 80% for the same window, applying to boxes inside terminals from Feb 28 or gated in until 7 AM Mar 8.
- JNPA directed shipping lines, NVOCCs and freight forwarders to pass the waivers through to the actual exporters.
- The authority is working with customs to enable temporary transshipment of Middle East-bound loads and is providing additional terminal storage across its five facilities.
- Government and industry sources estimate exporter savings of about Rs 1 lakh per container, translating to roughly Rs 12 crore in relief under the measures.
